Software Architecture: Organization Principles and Patterns by David Dikel, Unique "how-to" focus is invaluable whether you're a software architect, software engineer, or IT executive Implementing and managing software architecture across a value chain, product line, or enterprise can be tremendously difficult. "Software Architecture: Organizational Principles and Patterns" offers the first complete roadmap for building software architectures that achieve the most demanding goals--now, and for years to come. Discover how to: Establish a product-line architectural framework and vision that managers, administrators, and developers can buy into Implement architectures that anticipate and predict change and can easily adapt to new business requirements Address the organizational issues that make or break enterprise software architectures Unless you understand how architecture will interact with your organization and unless you know what to do, even the most sensible architectures can quickly stagnate or lead to more unpleasant surprises. The authors, a team of leading architects, will show you how to field resilient, long-lasting architectures. "Software Architecture: Organizational Principles and Patterns" introduces the breakthrough VRAPS (Vision, Rhythm, Anticipation, Partnering, and Simplification) model for software architecture and demonstrates how to leverage it through real-world case studies, patterns, and antipatterns. "The three authors do a good job of highlighting the dual aspect of the architect's job: handling social as well as technical complexity. They connect the architect's technical activity to surrounding social issues that can easily derail it, making good use of both patterns and antipatterns to structure their advice.
Architecture and Its Image: Four Centuries of Architectural Representation: Works from the Collection of the Canadian Centre for Architecture by Eve Blau, Drawing on an incomparable collection of architectural drawings and prints, photographs, books, and periodicals, "Architecture and Its Image "explores the idea of serial imagery in architectural representation through works dating from the Renaissance to today.Although drawings and photographs of architecture are often viewed as single images, they are generally produced in series. The most basic of these is the set of drawings that shows a building in plan, elevation, and section. But as "Architecture and Its Image "reveals, the concept can be extended to other types of architectural representations: theater sets, travel accounts, photographic surveys, pattern books, even the alternative designs submitted for competition. All relate in different ways to their subjects; viewed in series, all reveal underlying principles of organization that can convey new understanding of architectural imagery.Under the headings Architecture in Three Dimensions, Architecture in Place and Time, and Architecture in Process, essays by six scholars use the concept of serial imagery to explore the complex relationship between various types of architectural representations and their subject matter: projective drawings (Robin Evans), 19th-century urban survey photography (Eve Blau), the travel narratives of English architectural "explorers" from the mid-18th to the mid-19th century (Edward Kaufman), festival and theater architecture (William Alexander McClung), architectural publications, competitions, and exhibitions (Helene Lipstadt), and computer graphics (Robert Bruegmann). An accompanying catalog describes 350 examples, drawn from the CCA collections, of work by architects and architectural delineators, photographers, and cartographers. The book is illustrated by over 400 superbly reproduced duotone illustrations and 16 pages of color.Eve Blau is Curator of Exhibitions and Publications at the CCA.
Naval architecture - Naval architects design barges, boats, and ships for their clients to be for use in commercial, pleasure, military, or or other applications. The naval architect does this based on customer criteria, external criteria, and with the knowledge and style and experience of the designer. Functionalism (architecture) - Functionalism, in architecture, is the principle that architects should design a building based on the purpose of that building. This statement is less self-evident than it first appears, and is a matter of confusion and controversy within the profession, particularly in regard to modern architecture. AMO (architecture) - AMO is a research company created by Rem Koolhaas who is the principle of the OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture). While OMA remains dedicated to the realization of architectural projects, AMO applies architectural thinking in its pure form to questions of organization, identity, culture and program, and defines ways - from the conceptual to the operative - to address the full potential of the contemporary condition. Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau - Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau (1700-1782), was a French naval engineer and botanist. He was involved in the foundation of the "Académie de marine de Brest", on the 31th of July 1752, and published Les éléments d'architecture navale ("elements of naval architecture").
